GNS Managing Director Georg Büth bids farewell to retirement

29.05.2024

After more than 16 years as Managing Director of GNS, Georg Büth will retire at the end of May 2024. He joined the GNS Management Board on January 1, 2008 and has since been responsible for the commercial areas of controlling, finance, information systems, human resources and legal affairs.

“For more than one and a half decades, Georg Büth has not only accompanied the fortunes of GNS in commercial responsibility, but has actively shaped and influenced them,” GNS Supervisory Board Chairman Dr. Guido Knott expressed the shareholders' thanks to Georg Büth at the GNS Supervisory Board meeting: “Like our entire industry, GNS has undergone profound changes during this time. The founding of the BGZ, which Georg Büth helped to shape, and its subsequent smooth transfer to the federal government mark not only one of the most important milestones in the history of GNS, but also in nuclear waste management in Germany as a whole. At the same time, Georg Büth has strengthened GNS for a successful future beyond interim storage and with increasingly international projects with future-oriented investments in GNS sites and technology as well as with strategic acquisitions, such as most recently EWB and H&B. We would like to sincerely thank Georg Büth for these achievements and his outstanding commitment.”

Daniel Oehr, Chairman of the GNS Management Board, acknowledges the achievements of his management colleague: “‘Excellence for Nuclear’ is our shared vision and we all work hard every day to meet the expectations of our customers. However, this 'excellence' doesn't just start at or for the customer - without reliable commercial processes and an efficient organization, we would not be able to deliver what we have promised. Over the years, Georg and his team have ensured a robust and trustworthy basis for the projects and business of GNS and have driven forward the jointly initiated transformation process of the GNS Group with commercial acumen and vision. I would like to thank Georg for the trusting cooperation and I am very much looking forward to taking over the commercial functions from him and leading them into the future with my experienced colleagues.”

Daniel Oehr, Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of GNS since December 2020 and previously responsible for strategy, communication, sales and the decommissioning and waste management activities of GNS, will also take over responsibility for the commercial department from June 1, 2024. A new member of the GNS Management Board will be appointed shortly as COO with future responsibility for the “Decommissioning & Waste Management” division.
