Fire Tests

The internationally specified test conditions for accident-proof transport packaging for radioactive materials in the event of a fire are given by a 30-minute fuel oil fire with a complete enclosure of the cask and a flame temperature around 800° C.

Both CASTOR® and CONSTOR® casks of GNS have been tested under these boundary conditions. In reality, the flame temperatures were in part significantly higher than the specified 800° C.
The fire tests proved that the casks did not suffer any loss of their safety function as a result of the fire effects. In particular, the sealing systems remained in good condition.

Test results

All tests confirm that the casks meet all requirements even under extreme loads.
